Do You Write Lots Of Articles On Your Computer??

Posted on 04 July 2008

Over the last few months I have written quite a few blog entries and articles for publication in various places.  I really enjoy this work but I had started to find that using my “old” method of writing using notepad++ was becoming more difficult.

The reasons for this are many but I think it mainly came down to distractions.  Last year I bought a new computer and it came with a humongous screen - well it seemed it to me anyway!

The trouble with such a screen is the number of windows that you can see at any one time.  Windows with all sorts of colours, web pages with flashing adverts, new email alerts etc.  And all this clutter kept drawing my eye and concentration away from what I was supposed to be doing.

I was lucky enough to find a solution to this and since I started using it my productivity has vastly improved.

The solution is simple and FREE!  A program called “Dark Room”

It is a simple little program that turns the screen completely black and all you can see is the green letters coming from your inspired typing (hopefully).  The program saves into a simple text file from where you can edit, format, add links etc.

I know it looks like using another program between you and your wordpress (or similar) blog, but it really does help me - why not give it a try.

You can get Dark Room here - FREE

It works on my XP Pro desktop machine and my Vista Business laptop - but please don’t come running back here if your machine self destructs!!

Here’s to your improved writing output!!

I am a qualifed Certified Practising Accountant having passed my final exams way back in 1981. I actually can’t believe that was 27 years ago!! Anyway, I am now in my 50’s and I have been running my own business since May 1983. And before you ask, no, I have never regretted a moment of it! Part of the membership requirements of my professional body now dictate that I spend quite a lot of time on “CPD” - continuing professional education (one of their better ideas) - and over the last two years I decided to study business growth and marketing. I have learnt such a lot and that knowledge has radically changed my old “accountants” approach to business. It has made such a difference to the way I work and operate I feel that I just have to pass on this knowledge. It is simply too powerful to hold back!! - but I will try and do it in simple terms rather than expecting you to spend hours, as I had to, working through the difficult language that trainers seem to use to pass on their concepts. I hope you find the blog a useful resource and interesting place to visit as the months pass. I will do my best to keep up the flow - but if there are any topics you would like me to cover, then please let me know. Ray Stewart ICPA FCCA MICB CB.Dip PM.Dip
