I know all of you are aware of how much I love this bookkeeping package. Even now, it is unrivalled for ease of use, flexibility, multi-currency abilities, emailing invoices, editability…the list goes on.
This program has been under development for some years now and throughout all that time it has been offered to the world as a free program whilst it was improved, tested and extended in its beta form. Now though, this is coming to an end.[private_basic]All the people using the free download version are starting to get reminders on their screens when they fire up the program that the free option, after all these years, is finally coming to an end. If you want to continue using this amazing software you will need to pay for it. The first payment is £125+VAT and then £100+VAT each year thereafter.
I have had several people ringing me and complaining that they are now so deeply entrenched in the use of the program that they feel blackmailed into paying money just to keep using it. To those people I say this – just look at the alternatives on the market. There are many around but none of them even come close to VT Transaction Plus for all the reasons already mentioned, and most of them cost significantly more than £125+VAT. It is easy enough for people to change to another package if they are dead set against paying this small amount. However, each person I have spoken to realizes that they have been lucky up to now to use this exceptional program completely free and that it is only fair that the creators have some income from it now it is fully functional, totally stable and simplicity itself to use. The alternative doesn’t bear thinking about… if this program continues to be free, the company developing it will gradually close down and this package could be lost for ever.
I do not want to see that happen and nor does anyone who has used it.
I have also been asked if I will sell the program. The answer to that is no. Everyone who has asked so far has been directed to the online purchase page of VT Software Ltd and asked to buy it directly. I have adopted this position so that I can still maintain my independence from the package and so you all know there is no underlying motive to my continually recommending it. It also means more of the income goes straight into the company that developed it – and I can’t wait to see what they are going to come up with next. The 60 day download version of the package will still be highlighted on this site – but that’s all.
So, if you are one of those who feel annoyed at the reminder to buy the program after using it for a while, put your sensible head on and realize you are still getting an amazing bargain and if you make the choice to stop using it – what else will you use that costs less but can’t match the facilities you currently take for granted??
There isn’t anything. Of course, you can choose something dearer out of principle if you prefer – it’s up to you. But I almost guarantee that if you try and move to another package you will get so disheartened you will be back, cap in hand, and happy to pay twice the asking price just to get back to a usable system.
Please don’t put yourself through that though – take my word for it. If you do – please be kind enough to let me know and I will dedicate a case study on this site for you to recount your experiences for everyone to read.
