New Services

I know, I know…. It has been too long since I last posted here.  I can’t explain why – I simply don’t know why.  Maybe I lost my mojo… maybe I have been too busy… maybe I simply forgot.

Anyway, over the past few months I have been tackling a new tax and accounts production suite, developing my long relationship with TCM (my paperless office program since 2001), studying hard with my Professional Development responsibilities, working hard with some fantastic new clients and gradually catching up with a huge backlog of work.

This weekend I have added a raft of new pages to the website because it was pointed out (rather rudely) that most of the services I offer were not reflected on the site – so causing confusion as to whether or not I actually did some of that stuff!  Even though they represent the very work that I enjoy doing the most!

I have moved me, and my able assistants, to Hosted Desktops in an effort to remove me as a bottleneck in the business.  We all now look at the same programs and the same data.  This was sort of forced on me after the many movements of data between us resulted in a very important file being over-written.  Thank heaven for backups but it focused me on finding a better solution all round.  If you are interested to know how the hosted desktops work, and if they may be of use to you in your business, then please get in touch.  Everyone will eventually get to see mine as I can access it on my laptop whilst I am in a meeting with you.

Another huge change is in how I will be sending out accounts and Self Assessment forms in 2014.  Email has always been very insecure and unreliable, and the post is becoming a very expensive and slow way to move personal information around.

Every client now has a secure area in Iris Openspace.  As and when your first documents are uploaded to this new service, an email is issued informing you there is a new document and it will ask you to set up a password.  You will then have a secure area which will gradually build up into a library of your important documents in case you ever need further copies.  The only issue that has been brought to my attention about this is that the initial email from Iris Openspace looks a little spammy.  I can’t change that however!  So when you do get this initial email please don’t delete it!  If you have any questions about it at them time – please ring me first.

Once you have sorted the password, you will be able to electronically sign (“E” sign) the documents if you are happy with the draft accounts or tax return.  I then get a cover page stamped with your electronic signature for my records.  These will not get lost in the post, nor forgotten or overlooked.  I trust you will embrace this move into the 21st Century with me.

The accounts themselves are now in a new format.  I have been using the same templates for the last 20 odd years so it really was time to move forward!

More soon and regular posts will be restarted!

I am a qualified Certified Practising Accountant having passed my final exams way back in 1981. I actually can’t believe that was 37 years ago!! Anyway, I am now in my 60’s and I have been running my own business since May 1983. And before you ask, no, I have never regretted a moment of it! Part of the membership requirements of my professional body now dictate that I spend quite a lot of time on “CPD” - continuing professional education (one of their better ideas) - and over the last two years I decided to study business growth and marketing. I have learnt such a lot and that knowledge has radically changed my old “accountants” approach to business. It has made such a difference to the way I work and operate I feel that I just have to pass on this knowledge. It is simply too powerful to hold back!! - but I will try and do it in simple terms rather than expecting you to spend hours, as I had to, working through the difficult language that trainers seem to use to pass on their concepts. I hope you find the blog a useful resource and interesting place to visit as the months pass. I will do my best to keep up the flow - but if there are any topics you would like me to cover, then please let me know. Ray Stewart
